I didn't say goodbye because
when they called to say
you were sick
I didn't catch the first flight.
I booked one for the next day instead,
went to Chapters and bought
three books about dying read all three
asfastasIcould, oneaftertheother.

But as fast as I could read
you could die faster and
you hurtled across the finish line
before my flight even got off the ground.
